New
Capacities
Through the New Capacities program, WTT works with other institutions to stimulate and implement processes for developing organizational capacities in innovation and co-production in the context of science, technology, and innovation. Here, WTT collaborates with organizations in internal and relational processes with the aim of promoting specific skills and knowledge. Context, demands, and characteristics of the organizations and/or territories are fundamental in designing the solutions. Institutes, companies, centers, and civil society organizations are some of the partners with/for whom WTT develops solutions in this program.

Partners

WTT joins efforts in this multisectoral initiative aimed at designing the institutional structure and business model of the Sociobioeconomy Center of Pará. Along this path, WTT is responsible for conducting exercises to prospect demands and opportunities in two territories of the state of Pará: Xingu and Tocantins. The diagnoses are developed in collaboration with local organizations previously designated in each territory. The purpose is to test and generate insights on participatory methodologies and intercultural, intersectoral, interdisciplinary, and inter-knowledge dialogues, contributing to the design of the Center’s institutional and methodological proposal.

Vale Technological Institute Project

Project

The project’s ultimate goal is to transform the Vale Technological Institute into a proactive agent of innovation in its context. To achieve this, a series of activities, including workshops, interviews, and dynamics, are conducted to support the organization’s change management process. The project has three main phases: exploration and diagnosis of the organization’s internal and external issues; co-development of products; and implementation of these products. To guide this change process, WTT uses the mission-oriented innovation approach, which provides tools and instruments to develop change and proactivity strategies designed from the outside in, considering collaborative work with other territorial agents in building solutions that impact communities

Action

Climate Solutions Lab is a project acceleration laboratory coordinated by WTT in partnership with South African professor Phumlani Nkontwana, which serves as a platform to promote innovative solutions from young leaders from Madagascar, Niger, Uganda, Zambia, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala in the context of climate change and the contexts of each country.

The project is part of Impulsouth, an initiative of the Avina Foundation and the UN University (UNU) on climate action with funding from Canada’s International Development Research Center (IDRC). The initiative aims to qualify the countries’ commitments to climate change (NDC) in the 6 countries.

Climate Solutions Lab provides a space for experimentation and innovation so that young leaders from these countries in Africa and Central America/Caribbean can receive resources, mentoring, learn about methodologies and create connections in order to advance climate solutions for their territories.

With two classes taking place between 2022 and 2024, Climate Solutions Lab brings together innovators from a South-South cooperation perspective: how can young people from countries in the Global South find and develop solutions to similar challenges? At the same time, one of the project’s strengths is based on the differences in context, background and experience of each participant, which enriches the meetings and exchanges.
